Overview

You Got This is a psychology-based party game designed to spark meaningful conversations and strengthen bonds among players. Featuring a mix of fun and thought-provoking questions, challenges, and dares, the game uses color psychology to categorize its game cards and create an engaging experience. With a unique point system to encourage participation, You Got This transforms any gathering into a memorable and emotionally rewarding event.

Role

As the game designer for You Got This, I:

  • Conducted research on group dynamics and psychology to craft the game’s mechanics.

  • Designed game cards with engaging prompts and dares categorized by color psychology principles.

  • Developed a point-based scoring system to motivate active participation.

  • Created prototypes for testing, gathering feedback to refine gameplay and card content.

  • Designed a visual identity for the game, incorporating vibrant colors and user-friendly layouts to appeal to diverse audiences.

Challenge

In a fast-paced world, people often struggle to connect meaningfully during social gatherings. The challenge was to:

  • Encourage Openness: Design game mechanics that gently push players to share and open up.

  • Balance Fun with Depth: Ensure the game remains light-hearted while fostering emotional connection.

  • Incorporate Psychology: Use color psychology to create intuitive card categories and make the experience more dynamic.

  • Create Replayability: Develop a system that keeps the game fresh and enjoyable across multiple sessions.

Solution

The final design brought together fun, psychology, and connection through:

  • Color-coded card categories (e.g., red for bold dares, yellow for light-hearted fun, blue for introspection) to guide gameplay.

  • A question-and-dare format tailored to elicit laughter, stories, and shared moments.

  • A dynamic point system rewarding creativity and courage to make the game competitive yet inclusive.

  • Minimal setup and flexible rules, making the game accessible for any group size or event type.

  • Psychologically curated prompts designed to deepen connections without crossing comfort zones.
